April 6, 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Pulaski, PA)…FASTRAK Northeast is proud to announce that Utsinger’s Towing of Boardman, Ohio will be partnering in conjunction with select regional Hoosier Tire Distributors to present one new FASTRAK Hoosier Tire per Touring event to Series racers.
In an ongoing effort to secure valuable contingencies for the Northeast Touring Series drivers, the “Hoosier Tire Giveaway” program was created that will award a new tire to the driver running last on the lead lap at the finish of each of the Series’ 24 Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Touring events scheduled for the 2011 season.
“During the offseason it was my hope that I would be able to secure a minimum of 24 FASTRAK Hoosier Tires, over $3300 in value, to be given away throughout our season,” stated Northeast Series co-Director Vicki Emig. “Thankfully many regional FASTRAK Northeast Hoosier Tire distributors stepped up to assist, but a title sponsor was still needed to complete the program. Knowing Buzz Utsinger’s personally and his philosophy of not necessarily helping local racers monetarily, but rather preferring to support them with product, I thought this would be a perfect fit.”
The Utsinger’s name has long been respected throughout the western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio region. Many of the area’s greatest drivers have all wheeled the Utsinger’s cars, including Ralph Quarterson, Jack Sodeman, and Andy Lutz many of which were powered by the legendary Pappy Kerr’s speedplants. Both Floyd and Ronnie Trevis, nationally renowned car builders, were also a strong part of the Utsinger Racing Team.
In recent years, Steve D’Apolito, drove the immaculate Utsinger’s #23 to five wins at Mercer Raceway Park in 2009 and also captured the Tri-City Speedway’s prestigious “Applefest 100” in 2007. Both accomplishments came with a 602 GM crate engine! Davey Jones, the “Baden Bandit” won his first Sprint Car race ever driving a 360-powered Utsinger-owned car at Hickory Speedway.
“I always like to be involved in area racing,” explained Buzz Utsinger. “My farther, Arlie introduced me to the sport through his long career as a car owner, and I have many wonderful memories of our time together at the races. I want my son, Charlie to also be able to enjoy an up close and personal experience with the racers, and I thought that the FASTRAK Northeast Series and the “Hoosier Tire” Give-a-way program would be a great place for us to participate.”
“We look forward to Buzzy, his family, and company Utsinger’s Towing becoming part of our growing organization,” expressed Northeast Series co-Director Mike Leone. “By awarding the tire to a racer who came to participate, but may not have experienced the best of nights, is sure to be appreciated by all. Buzzy is one of the most generous and sincere people we know and I know our drivers will come to enjoy him as much as we do.”
The “Hoosier Tire Giveaway” title sponsorship package will begin to make Utsinger’s Towing synonymous with the FASTRAK Northeast Series through many different marketing and promotional opportunities. Look for their giant wrecker to pace the FASTRAK Late Model Touring fields at some of the Series’ most prestigious events.
Applebee Motorsports, Bid Daddy’s Speed Center, Close Racing Supply, Dave Poske’s Performance Parts, High Gear Speed Shop, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic (Baltimore/Pittsburgh), Imperial Heights Garage, Rocket Chassis, and Wedge Motorsports have all also supported the program, with their tire giveaways being specifically awarded at speedways in their immediate area.
Utsinger’s Towing was established in 1961 by the late Arlie Utsinger, Sr. Since Arlie’s passing in 1994, Utsinger’s Towing has been managed by his son Buzz Utsinger. The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series will get underway for the new season on Saturday, April 16 at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, West Virginia. The $1,500 to-win “topless” event will be co-sanctioned with the Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series.
