By Mike Leone & Chris Zuver
June 19, 2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
East Smethport, PA…The FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series made
their first of two appearances of the season to the scenic McKean County Raceway
on Saturday night. Despite a 60% chance of thunderstorms and rain scattered
throughout the region, 42 race teams made the trip for race #4 on the 20-event
slate and the first of three National Events over the course of the next four
weeks
Making his first ever FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series start, Robbie Blair made a clean sweep of the night setting fast time, winning his heat race, and capturing the 40-lap feature win. The victory was worth $5,000 for the Centerville, Pa. driver.
Defending track champion John Lacki and Touring Series regular Dan Angelicchio led the 24-car field to green. Lacki would get the quick jump on Angelicchio with Jim Frank in tow followed by hometown favorite and new Touring Series regular, Steve Dixon.
Blair would move into fourth on lap two before the yellow lights came one for an accident involving defending Series champion David Scott, Justin Tatlow, Kyle Lukon and Dan Karalagas. Angelicchio would get the jump on Lacki on the restart as Blair was now in third with Jim Frank sliding back to fourth.
The yellow lights came back on lap six for Matt Cobb and Kyle Zimmerman. Angelicchio led the field back to green with Mike Pegher, Jr. moving into the top five and up to second on lap seven, but only to see Blair come back and take the runner up spot back on lap eight.
After challenging Angelicchio, Blair finally made the winning move on lap 15. Lacki then dropped Angelicchio back to third on 21 with Pegher up to fourth. With 13 laps remaining, Lacki challenged Blair for the lead, but the duo made contact as Lacki spun and collected Pegher and Damian Bidwell machines.
Blair led the rest of the way in his #W11 to become the 19th different Northeast Touring Series winner in 38 races all-time! Angelicchio turned in his season best effort in second and earned $2,500. Dixon improved on his May 29 inaugural Touring Series finish of fourth at Sharon with a fine third place effort worth $1,250. Touring Series point leader Max Blair was fourth with Kyle Zimmerman coming all the way from the tail to finish fifth for his first career top five in Touring Series competition. Matt Cobb was sixth with Butch Lambert seventh. Jason Genco made his first career Touring Start a successful one coming home in eighth with Bryan Force and Dennis Lunger, Jr. rounding out the top 10.
Along with Blair, Touring Series members Josh Holtgraver, Lacki, Dan Karalagas, and Pegher won the heats, but all had problems in the feature. Cobb and Sophomore Touring Series regular Bud Watson won the B mains.
