2011 NEWS:
FASTRAK NORTHEAST KEEPS ON ROCKIN’; HARD ROCK CAFÉ PITTSBURGH TO HOST 2010 NE & MOV TOURING BANQUET ON JANUARY 30 By Mike Leone A record cash payoff will be dolled out to the top 15 drivers in the Northeast Touring and the top 10 drivers in the Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series. Special awards will be handed out as well including “The Wheelman” Bonus Event Challenge Series. “We’re extremely excited to be able to have the Hard Rock Café host our awards banquet,” expressed Northeast co-Director Vicki Emig. “We felt Pittsburgh was a central location for the Northeast Region especially with the Mid-Ohio Valley included this year. And what better place to host this affair and bring everyone together than the Hard Rock Café! With this change of pace from the traditional banquet setting, we thought Hard Rock could offer a more casual and fun atmosphere.” For the second time in three seasons, Max Blair is the FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series Champion. The 20-year-old Centerville, Pa. driver captured four wins bumping his career win total to an all-time Series high nine in his Specialty Products/4 Your Car Connection/Moody & Son Welding/Bossard’s Sales & Service-sponsored #111. Blair becomes the first repeat champion in the four-year history of the Series. The record-setting Northeast Touring Series saw all 20 events completed with six of those achieving 40 cars or more including an all-time high 53 at the opening event at Tyler County Speedway. The average car count was 32 per event with a record 176 different drivers competing! Twelve different drivers won events including eight first time Touring winners. Gary Knollinger will go down in the history books as the first ever Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series Champion The Wheeling, West Virginia driver, who also finished fourth in the Northeast Touring including his career first Touring Series win at Sharon, recorded a season best third in MOV action at West Virginia Motor Speedway on September 2. Knollinger drove the Gumby’s Grab & Go/H.P. Excavating-sponsored #38K. A total of 106 different drivers competed in the MOV events with an average car count of 37. Thanks to three top four finishes in the non-qualifier events, Justin Kreider of Linesville, Pa. captured the inaugural “Wheelman” Bonus Event Challenge Series Championship. Jason Genco finished second thanks to victories at Sharon and Raceway 7. There were six different winners in as many races. “The 2010 season was such a great year for FASTRAK and its racers,” stated Northeast co-Director Mike Leone. “Our drivers will take home approximately $100,000 in FASTRAK point fund monies not even including race winnings and local track point funds! We feel we’ve grown enough now that we can hold a banquet of our own. The date should be good for everyone as it doesn’t conflict with any other track banquets and it is an off weekend for football and racing.” After the banquet, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy and partake in some of the Pittsburgh night life, whether it be at any one of the other great establishments located at Station Square or perhaps Rivers Casino, which is just a few minutes away. Dinner will begin at 5 p.m. and will be followed by the awards presentation. Tickets are $34. For ticket information, please go to our website at www.fastraknortheast.com. ERIEZ SPEEDWAY TO RUN FASTRAK LATE MODELS WEEKLY IN 2011; BECOMES SUNDAY NIGHT ANCHOR FOR NORTHEAST By Mike Leone November 23, 2010 (Pulaski, PA)…The FASTRAK Racing Series is excited to announce that Eriez Speedway will run the Late Model division on a weekly basis for the upcoming 2011 season. The announcement was made by track owner Bobby Rohrer on November 20 at Eriez’s 2010 awards banquet. Eriez joins the strong list of Northeast speedways under the FASTRAK banner and will give racers a great facility to compete at on Sunday nights. “The addition of Eriez Speedway to FASTRAK Northeast could not have happened at a better time,” expressed Northeast co-Director Vicki Emig. “With Tri-City Speedway moving to Friday night action, Eriez will now be our only Sunday weekly-sanctioned track. Couple that with their location to draw racers from all over the north plus a reasonable drive time for many in the middle section of our Region, and it’s sure to be a win-win situation for everyone.” Eriez has held two FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series events under the ownership of Rohrer. Dick Barton captured the first event in the inaugural season of FASTRAK in the Northeast on June 17, 2007 and two-time Series champion Max Blair won the following year on August 25, 2008. Blair, who is also a two-time National Weekly Series Champion, and many other Northeast racers are very excited to once again have a Sunday night track that allows them to accumulate valuable National Weekly Series points. “I’ve been paying close attention to the FASTRAK program the last few years,” said Rohrer. “The growth of FASTRAK has been very impressive in a short period of time. The affordability and the stringent teching makes FASTRAK an attractive division. I’ve had a lot of guys in recent years ask me about adding the division, and I don’t think the timing could be any better to bring the class to Eriez in 2011. FASTRAK will be a great addition to our weekly lineup, and already since I made the announcement, the response has been tremendous.” “Eriez is a racey track and its small configuration makes for great racing no matter what the division is,” stated Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. “We had two great races when we were there back in 2007 and 2008. We were still in our infancy stages then when car counts in the 20s were considered large. Unfortunately the weather was miserable for the second event. The northern part of our region is very strong now and these guys are thrilled now to have another solid weekly track close to home.” This comes one week after announcements by two key Ohio speedways. Sharon Speedway announced weekly FASTRAK Late Model racing on Saturday nights in 2011; meanwhile, brothers Dan and Percy McDonald announced at the Raceway 7 banquet they’ll be back for a second season and that FASTRAK will continue to sanction the headlining division for their fifth consecutive year. Eriez Speedway is a 3/8-mile dirt track located outside of Erie, Pa. in Hammett, Pa. Take Interstate 90 to exit 8 (Route 8). Go south on Rte 8 approximately 2.5 miles towards Hammett, Pa to Tate Rd. Turn right onto Tate Rd and follow until the "T" intersection. At the "T" turn left onto Lake Pleasant. Go approximately .3 miles to Sampson Rd and turn right. Eriez Speedway is on the left. SHARON SPEEDWAY COMMITS TO WEEKLY FASTRAK LATE MODEL RACING IN 2010 By Mike Leone November 13, 2010 (Pulaski, PA)…The FASTRAK Racing Series is excited to announce that Sharon Speedway will run the Late Model division on a weekly basis for the upcoming 2011 season. Sharon joined the FASTRAK ranks hosting six events in 2010 and now for the first time ever, the FASTRAK Late Models will become a weekly attraction at the Hartford, Ohio oval. FASTRAK racers will now have the opportunity on weekly basis to count their finishes at Sharon toward the National Weekly Series Championship, which pays $10,000 to-win and down 50 positions. Max Blair, who won the August 28 and September 18 Sharon events, was the National Weekly Champion for the second time in three seasons! Sharon’s events will also allow racers to count their events toward the 12-race minimum requirement to qualify for the three-night Grand Nationals in October. “This is really a big deal for FASTRAK,” acknowledged Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. “Sharon is one of the nicest short-track facilities in the country and for them to make the move to FASTRAK shows just how far the division has come in four years here in the Northeast.” There were an incredible seven different winners in those eight events run at Sharon as Blair of Centerville, Pa. was the only repeat winner! Other winners at Sharon include Mike Pegher, Jr. (Wexford, Pa.), David Scott (Garland, Pa.), Josh Holtgraver (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Gary Knollinger (Wheeling, W.V.), Joe Martin (Mayport, Pa.), and Alan Dellinger (Hermitage, Pa.). This shows the amazing competiveness of the division and the fact that Sharon Speedway seems extremely conducive to the FASTRAK concept. In fact, both Knollinger and Holtgraver’s wins were their first ever in Touring Series competition, and interestingly enough an Ohio driver has yet to win a feature at Sharon! “I’m really looking forward to being able to run FASTRAK on a weekly basis,” stated Willoughby. “We had great success with the eight FASTRAK shows that were run over the past two seasons. We had strong car counts with unbelievable competition and the support and reaction from our fans helped make this decision an easier one. I had five calls last week from drivers making the move to FASTRAK since word of this announcement leaked out. Plus I’ve had a lot of guys tell me over the past year if Sharon adds FASTRAK they’d be there weekly.” Late Models have a rich history at Sharon Speedway and throughout the Youngstown region. Superstars such as Tommy Jarrett and Tommy Wimer on dirt and Jim Bickerstaff, Mark Malcuit, Glenn Gault, and Joe Mihalic on asphalt are just a few drivers who have forged their names in the speedway’s annals. “This is really nostalgic for me as I’m sure it is for many others throughout the area” stated Northeast Co- Director Vicki Emig. So many of us grew up at Sharon watching our Late Model heroes battle on Sharon’s tough ¼ mile in the 60’s and later on the asphalt ½ mile during the 70’s. I’m really excited to know that Sharon has given us the opportunity to add today’s FASTRAK Late Model drivers’ names to their record books. A large field of cars is expected weekly with a strong core based within an hour of the speedway. One driver anxiously looking forward to Sharon running FASTRAK is Bill Cunningham. The Jefferson, Ohio veteran returned to racing last season in a limited effort for the first time in FASTRAK. Later in the season, son Billy entered the FASTRAK ranks. The Cunninghams are looking forward to an all-out assault on FASTRAK in 2011 Entering his third season in FASTRAK will be Bristolville, Ohio’s Josh Double. The 17-year-old appeared to pull off an upset win in a Touring Series event in 2009, but came up light at the scales. One year later in the 2009 Applefest version, Double nearly redeemed himself with a second place finish to Blair in the Touring Series event. Double, a former go-kart competitor, did capture his career first win this past season at Mercer. Double is anxiously looking forward to being able to compete in his “backyard”. “The response from racers about Sharon has been incredible,” expressed Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. “We’ve always had strong support at Sharon and drivers excited about racing there in the past, and now with FASTRAK there weekly, it’s compounded the interest. There are so many teenagers making the move to FASTRAK and other former racers that are getting back into racing. To align FASTRAK with a showplace like Sharon on a weekly basis speaks volumes for the division.” Sharon Speedway is a 3/8-mile dirt track located on Custer-Orangeville Road in Hartford, Ohio near the intersection of Routes 7 & 305. FASTRAK NORTHEAST WELCOMES FOUNDER STAN LESTER TO REGION FOR 3 INFORMATIONAL SEMINARS NOVEMBER 8-10 By Mike Leone Four years ago, through the foresight and urging of local racer Scott Myers, Lester made his original trek to the north from Carnesville, Georgia. Who would have known that this small meeting held in Pulaski, Pennsylvania would grow in a very short period of time to include 15 sanctioned tracks, 22 Touring events, and some 300 participants? “Although we speak to Stan at his corporate office on a regular basis, we felt it was very important to have him come back to the Northeast in a more personal setting to meet and speak once again to the promoters and drivers in our area,” expressed Northeast co-Director Vicki Emig. “The Series has grown so quickly that many of those participating today have never really had a chance for one-on-one interaction with Stan. Nobody can convey the concepts and beliefs of the FASTRAK Series better than its founder.” Because of the expanse of the Northeast Region, three separate seminars will take place. The first will be held at the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds at the Little Valley Speedway in Little Valley, New York on Monday, November 8 for racers in the northernmost part of the region. Seminar two will be hosted by Big Daddy’s Speed Center in Grove City, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, November 9 for the central part of the region. And finally, Dave Poske’s Performance Parts in Parkersburg, West Virginia will play host on Wednesday, November 10 for those in West Virginia and southern Ohio that were part of the new Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series, which got off the ground in 2010. Meeting times will be the same for all three seminars. Accompanying Lester to field questions will be Northeast Regional Directors Vicki Emig and Mike Leone along with National Tech Director Shane Haynes and Northeast Regional Tech Inspector Brad Hibbard. “Throughout the last few years and of course during this past race season, we have received many questions and concerns from those participating in all levels of FASTRAK Northeast,” said Leone. “Although Stan is readily accessible and we always do our best to give correct answers, we know these people still want to see and hear from Stan. This will be a great opportunity for everyone to express their thoughts and opinions. Everyone is urged to attend and participate so that the 2011 FASTRAK season can begin to be promptly and efficiently planned. The FASTRAK Northeast Office thanks all those who so graciously offered the seminar venues. Their cooperation has been greatly appreciated. Watch in the near future for additional press releases concerning other exciting activities and promotions that will coincide with these meetings. FASTRAK NORTHEAST DRIVERS TRIP SOUTH TO GRAND NATIONALS A SUCCESS; MAX BLAIR TAKES $20,000 RUNNER-UP HONORS AS 2010 FASTRAK POINT MONIES EXCEED $95,000! By Mike Leone
The Blair family led the charge for the Grand National title as both Max and his father Robbie found themselves tied for the point lead. Max had high hopes of making a clean sweep of the three levels of FASTRAK’s lucrative point funds. The 20-year-old Centerville, Pa. driver had already captured the $10,000 National Weekly Series Championship and the $5,000 Northeast Touring Series Championship for the second time in the past three seasons. After a disappointing qualifying effort, Blair worked his way from the eighth starting spot in his heat to a third place finish, which translated into an 11th place starting spot for the 50-lap feature. Only one caution would slow the pace for the $2,000 to-win feature, which was won by Georgia’s Jonathan Davenport. After 50 laps around the fast, high-banked Wythe Raceway, Blair had given his all which resulted in a respectable seventh place at the finish, as 22 of the original 24 starters finished the event. When the points were tallied, Blair came up just three points shy A.J. Diemel’s mark of 92. Diemel, who was last year’s National Weekly Series Championship, raced from the 12th starting spot to a third place finish to give the Great Lakes Region their first Grand National Championship, worth $30,000 for the Wisconsin driver. Blair’s runner-up was the best showing ever for the Northeast and earned the youngster $20,000 to go along with his $15,000 of 2010 FASTRAK point fund monies already earned bringing his total to $35,000! That impressive number doesn’t even include his season earnings, which featured a career-high 24 victories, along with championships at Raceway 7 and Tri-City Speedway plus a runner-up in the standings at Mercer Raceway Park in his Specialty Products/4 Your Car Connection/Moody & Son Welding/Bossard’s Sales & Service-sponsored #111. “To watch a 20-year-old racer rise not only to the top both locally and regionally is certainly something special, but to see him attain national recognition through the National Weekly Series and Grand Nationals is something that our entire region should be proud of,” stated fourth year Northeast co-Director Vicki Emig. “Max has exemplified what the FASATRAK Series has to offer. By applying himself over the past three years, he has shown everyone in our area the potential benefits of participating in this wonderful program.” With his many years of Super Late Model experience and success, many considered the elder Blair to have the best shot of the Northeast contingent to bring home the championship. The 2009 All Star champion and 2010 All Star current point leader looked strong in his heat Saturday night until getting shuffled around and dropped to fourth at the finish in his first ever race at Wythe. The 40-year-old started from the 15th spot in the feature and was only able to advance one position at the finish to 14th, but thanks to a runner-up at Mercer and a win at Roaring Knob, Robbie was able to tie for fifth place in the final Grand National points! Besides the Blair Family, Bud Watson was the biggest story from the Northeast heading to the Grand Nationals. The 17-year-old second year FASTRAK racer turned in a fifth place effort in Night 1 at Mercer and a fine third in Night 2 at Roaring Knob. Watson clicked instantly since getting into the John and Janet Powell #100 over Labor Day Weekend. His career first FASTRAK win came in a Touring Series event at Tri-City in just his third start for the Powells and top five finishes became the norm rather than the exception. Watson started fifth in his heat Saturday night and didn’t disappoint with a strong run to the runner-up position earning the eighth starting spot. Watson looked good early on in the feature as he moved up to the sixth position- the highest amongst Northeast drivers; however, Watson’s season came to an abrupt halt when Diemel got into the rear of Watson turning him into the frontstretch wall. Watson was credited with 24th and a disappointing 15th in the final Grand National standing some 10 spots lower than where he may have finished in the final standings had he maintained his position. With two Touring Series victories late in the season at Woodhull and McKean County Raceways on his resume and respectable finishes in the first two nights of the Grand Nationals, Steve Dixon made the long tow from Smethport, Pa. with high aspirations. The 30-year-old hard charger fought electrical issues all weekend long and didn’t have enough speed to contend for a feature position. Dixon’s first Grand Nationals effort ended with an 18th place point finish Besides Watson, Mike Blose suffered a good dose of heartbreak as well. The New Bethlehem, Pa. veteran was one of only four Northeast racers to turn in a pair of top 10 finishes in the first two nights of the Grand Nationals and was hoping for a strong effort at Wythe for a solid Grand National placing. A poor qualifying effort put Blose behind the eight-ball on Saturday night; however, he was able to work his way from the seventh starting spot into what would be a transferring spot in the second last chance race. Frankie Beard though had a great run off the top of turn four on the final lap to nip by Blose by a mere 0.011 seconds denying Blose from earning anymore valuable Grand National points. Blose would end up 19th in the final standings. Fresh off his third place finish in the National Event at West Virginia Motor Speedway one week prior, Dan Angelicchio was able to qualify for Saturday’s feature thanks to a fourth place heat finish. In the end, the Greensburg, Pa. racer came home in the 18th spot in the feature, which added to his 17th at Mercer and sixth at Roaring Knob to put him in a tie for 20th in points. With runner-ups in the National Weekly Series Championship and Northeast Touring Series points already to his credit, Mike Pegher, Jr. hoped to improve on his Grand Nationals standings. The Wexford, Pa. driver suffered a heartbreaking end in Night 2 of the Grand Nationals at Roaring Knob. While leading the feature, Pegher got caught up with the spinning Steve Davis and the contact resulted in a broken wrist. On Saturday night, Pegher turned the fastest lap of the Northeast racers in qualifying with fifth overall and a strong second place finish earned him a sixth starting spot in the feature. Pegher though slipped back through the field and could only a muster a 16th place finish and 22nd place standing in the Grand Nationals. Butch Lambert (Mars, Pa.) and Gary Knollinger (Wheeling, Wv.) battled all season long in the Northeast Touring Series with Lambert edging the Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series Champion by a single point for third place. The duo headed to the Grand Nationals ironically tied in points and would leave Virginia again tied in the final Grand Nationals standings in 23rd after both racers failed to qualify for the feature. Five other racers made the trip south to Wythe and though they were unable to crack the top 24 in the Grand Nationals point fund, they did have the opportunity to run the bonus event for racers outside that top 24 placing. The 12-lap event paid $1,200 to-win, which was won by Brian Connor. The top Northeast racer was Kyle Lukon. The 21-year-old Burgettstown, Pa. racer finished third after leading lap two in his first ever trip to Wythe. Finishing fifth in the event was 50-year Troy Shields. The Acme, Pa. driver missed out on fourth place by just 0.017 seconds. Joe Martin of Mayport, Pa. and Jamie Brown of Jamestown, Ny. entered Wythe tied with 45 points after the first two nights. The 25-year-old Martin would finish seventh in the bonus event, while the 20-year-old Brown came home one spot back in eighth. Like Dixon, Martin fought electrical issues as well. Brown made the longest tow south of the Northeast contingent and gained valuable experience in his first Grand Nationals effort “When it was all said and done, over $95,000 was influxed into the Northeast Region via the various FASTRAK point funds,” revealed fourth year Northeast co-Director Mike Leone. “The Northeast was represented by 28 out of the 50 racers in the National Weekly Series and nine out of the 24 in the Grand Nationals then add in the regional Touring Series and one can see the positive benefits of being part of the FASTRAK program. With some 100 additional racers taking part in FASTRAK bringing the total to over 300 along with record car counts and number of race tracks participating, the 2010 FASTRAK Northeast season was nothing short of spectacular and we looked forward to continued growth in 2011.”
NORTHEAST DRIVERS READY TO COMPETE IN FASTRAK GRAND NATIONALS FINALE; FATHER-SON DUO ROB & MAX BLAIR CURRENTLY TIED FOR $30,000 TO-WIN CHAMPIONSHIP By Mike Leone “2010 has been a phenomenal year for FASTRAK Northeast with a record-setting 15 tracks sanctioned and approximately 300 drivers taking part in a FASTRAK-sanctioned event in the Northeast,” explained fourth year Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “Already at least $60,000 in FASTRAK point monies have already been earned by drivers hailing from the Northeast via the National Weekly Series, Northeast Touring Series, and Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series. The Northeast drivers have put themselves in a tremendous position heading into the finale at Wythe as that $60,000 figure could easily soar to over $75,000 and possibly much, much more!” A strong contingent of Northeast drivers is expected to travel south led by the father-son duo of Robbie and Max Blair of Centerville, Pa. How many times in the annals of racing history have a father and son found themselves tied as they prepare to vie for a national championship? This scenario in itself sets the stage for a storybook ending, one that regardless of the outcome will become a lifetime memory for both. Max, the 20-year-old 2008 and 2010 National Weekly Series and Northeast Touring Series Champion and winner of Night 1 of the Grand Nationals at Mercer on October 2; Robbie, the 40-year-old two-time All Star Late Model Champion, winner of the $5,000 FASTRAK National Event at McKean County Raceway on June 19, and winner of Night 2 of the Grand Nationals at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex on October 9; both could certainly be considered odds on favorites to win this prestigious title. “In just a short four years, the Northeast Region has become a force to be reckoned with throughout the nation,” stated fourth year Co-Director Mike Leone. “All of the regional FASTRAK sanctioned promoters should be extremely proud of the fact that they have given their racers the opportunity to participate in all of the various levels of the FASTRAK program. When the final results of the Grand Nationals are added to the point fund monies already attained in the Northeast Region the number is going to be astounding!” Seventeen year old Bud Watson has also put himself in a fantastic position to bring home a large amount of money from the huge Grand National Point Fund. When 2009 Northeast Touring Series championship car owners John and Janet Powell recently tapped young Watson to takeover the wheel for David Scott, this partnership quickly turned heads. The Conneaut, Ohio racer won his first Northeast touring event at Tri-City Speedway in only his third starts for the Powells and continued on with several top five finishes including a fifth at Mercer’s Night 1 and a third at Roaring Knob’s Night 2. This team has high hopes heading into the Grand National finale and a bright future has been forged by joining young driving talent with a veteran car owner and chassis builder. Steve Dixon has already proven himself to be a strong contender wherever he appears. In his first season of FASTRAK, the Smethport, Pa. racer has already captured two Northeast Touring events along with several other victories. The 30-year-old has shown that he is an extremely versatile driver no matter the venue and is expected to adapt very quickly to the high-banked red clay oval known as the “Talladega of Dirt” - Wythe Raceway. Veteran driver Mike Blose brings years of Late Model experience to the Grand Nationals. The quiet, reserved New Bethlehem, Pa. shoe in his familiar red #5 will be a strong and steady force amongst the Northeast contingent. One of only four drivers in the Northeast to record two top 10 finishes in the first two nights of the Grand Nationals, Blose has set himself up for a strong placing in the final standings. Butch Lambert will embark on his third consecutive trip south to the Grand Nationals. The always consistent Mars, Pa. native has become one of the strongest supporters of FASTRAK by competing in all of the 2010 Northeast Touring events along with several National events. The 37-year-old has proven he can take his car to the front on many occasions this season regardless of his starting position and is sure to improve upon his current Grand National standing. West Virginia’s Gary Knollinger has probably logged more miles than any other FASTRAK driver in the Northeast this season. Through his efforts, he captured the Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series championship along with a strong fourth place finish in the Northeast Touring Series. This hard charging 38-year-old driver earned the seventh highest score amongst the Northeast contenders. Long-time Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway racer, Kyle Lukon, broadened his boundaries this summer when he left his home track to compete in the McKean County Raceway $5,000 to-win National event. Since then, the just turned 21-year-old Burgettstown, Pa. resident has become nearly a regular supporter in Northeast Touring Series events as he finished the year with four straight top six finishes! The Duquesne University student has made his first Grand National endeavor and will head south to somewhat of a familiar and comfortable setting on the huge half-mile. Coming off a phenomenal third place performance at this past Saturday night’s $10,000 to-win National Event at West Virginia Motor Speedway, Dan Angelicchio has proven that at any time he can be a factor while racing with the best. The Greensburg, Pa. driver also turned in a runner-up in the National Event at McKean along with a seventh place at Eldora Speedway’s National Event this summer. Had it not been for a last lap spin at Mercer, the 22-year-old racer would find himself even higher up in the current Grand National standings. Making a return trip south for the second straight year is Troy Shields. The 50-year-old is hoping for a better result that he did last year when he ended up upside down at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tn. Earlier this season, the Acme, Pa. driver ended a five-year winless drought when he won a Weekly Series event at Roaring Knob. Shields competed in more Northeast Touring Series events than ever before finishing 15th in points with a Touring best fifth place effort at Expo Speedway. Though he finds himself in a deficit in the Grand National points, Mike Pegher, Jr. would certainly be one of the favorites to win the finale at Wythe. Had it not been for a tangle with a lapped car while leading at Roaring Knob, it’s likely the Wexford, Pa. driver would most likely be near the very top of the Grand Nationals standings. The 24-year-old led the Northeast Touring Series with five victories and finished second in points as well as winning the $5,000 National Event at Eldora and the MOV Touring Series event at WVMS. He also finished second in the National Weekly Series points and third in the Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series points. His seven major victories alone in 2010 were worth $17,000! Two drivers tied with 45 points are Joe Martin and Jamie Brown. Martin has had a strong sophomore season with his first career Touring Series win this summer at Dog Hollow Speedway along with Weekly Series wins at Sharon and Dog Hollow. He outshined the competition at Mercer’s $6,000 National Event on July 3 setting fast time and came back as second fastest at Night 1 of the Grand Nationals. The 2009 Western PA Rookie of the Year is sure to be another great representative of the Northeast contingent. Brown of Jamestown, New York has quietly improved throughout his second season of FASTRAK competition. The 20-year-old really came on late in the season with a fifth place in the finale at McKean against a 42-car field, qualified for the Grand National feature at Mercer, and charged from 17th to ninth at Roaring Knob’s Night 2. Other Northeast drivers that competed in both Grand National nights in the Northeast and would be eligible to compete in the bonus event at Wythe are four-time Roaring Knob winner Ricky Meglaye, Shane Bambarger, Mercer champion Kyle Zimmerman, three-time Roaring Knob winner Rick Strickler, Sharon Touring Series winner Josh Holtgraver, 19-year-old Bobby Cossell IV, New Jersey’s Steve Davis, 58-year-old rookie Michael Hughes, and rookie two-time Roaring Knob winner Billy Stile III. “We could not be prouder of the group of drivers heading south for Night 3 at Wythe,” expressed Emig. “This is what FASTRAK is all about. Look over this list of drivers and all facets of racing are representative. Robbie Blair and Mike Blose are two of the most respective Super Late Model drivers in western Pa., while Knollinger, Lambert, Dixon, and Shields have made their way to FASTRAK as heavy hitters in other divisions of racing. “The most exciting aspect of this group is simply the talented youth that have rose to the top this season and are preparing themselves for what is sure to be an experience of a lifetime,” continued Emig. “Collectively between the ages of 17 and 25, Max Blair, Bud Watson, Dan Angelicchio, Kyle Lukon, Mike Pegher, Joe Martin and Jamie Brown are the future of our sport and I have no doubt in their ability to mix it up with the best FASTRAK talent in the country. I’m sure they will make us all proud when all is said and done.” Practice begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday night and following action, there will be a pit party with free food at 9 p.m. open to everyone from the grandstands. Hot laps begin at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday followed by qualifying, heat races, last chance races, the 50-lap Grand National feature, and the bonus event for racers outside the top 24 in points that competed all three nights of the Grand Nationals. Pit passes are $25 on Friday night and $35 on Saturday with a special two-day pit pass of $50. Also note, on Saturday at noon, there will be a 2011 drivers meeting at the tech building open to everyone. Wythe Raceway is located just minutes off I-81 at 164 Race Track Road in Rural Retreat, Virginia. FASTRAK GRAND NATIONALS ALIGN CLOSER TO INDIVIDUAL REGIONS; MERCER & ROARING KNOB READY TO HOST NIGHTS 1 & 2 NORTHEASTBy Mike Leone September 23, 2010 Pulaski, PA…It is with great enthusiasm that the FASTRAK Racing Series announces that each respective FASTRAK Region will now host Nights 1 and 2 in their own Regions before the entire nation comes together on Friday and Saturday, October 22-23 at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia for Night 3. The trifecta of events will decide the $30,000 National Championship, which is part of the approximate $150,000 Grand National point fund! Nights 1 and 2 for the Northeast will take place at Mercer Raceway Park on October 2 and Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex on October 9. For the first three years, the Grand Nationals were three events in the south where the entire nation met up to determine the prestigious national champion. As times changed, FASTRAK looked at the situation and decided it was in the best interest of all parties to host Night 1 in each respective Region, which took place in 2008 and 2009. This year, FASTRAK Corporate and each Region took went one step further for the upcoming 2010 Grand Nationals as now Nights 1 and 2 will be held in each respective Region! “I believe that this new concept will be a huge step forward in the continuing effort to put more emphasis on the importance of each respective FASTRAK Region,” stated Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “This gives each Region’s racers an even greater opportunity to bring home the big dollars of the Grand National point fund by letting them compete close to home on tracks they are more accustomed to before heading to Wythe. It also obviously will reduce the race teams’ overall costs by cutting down travel expenses. In the end, I’m sure this will encourage more participation throughout the nation for the Grand Nationals.” For the third straight year, Mercer Raceway Park will be the site of Night 1 as part of the track’s “Fall Brawl” on Saturday, October 2 at 6 p.m. The event will carry a rain date of Sunday, October 3. In 2008, Max Blair left the Northeast for the South with a perfect score, while last year Mike Pegher, Jr. was the Night 1 victor. FASTRAK Northeast has secured Night 2 as part of the inaugural “Fall Fest” at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex on Saturday, October 9 with a rain date of Sunday. Roaring Knob is in its second year under the FASTRAK banner and first under new owner Rick Jones. Roaring Knob has drew solid car counts all season long- the highest in the Region with an average of nearly a full field each night and only dipping below 20 cars five times in their 19 events. The “Fall Fest Championship” will also include the final Northeast Touring Series event on Friday, October 8 paying $1,200 to-win. The event will carry a rain date of Sunday the 10th providing Night 2 of the Grand Nationals is completed on Saturday. There will also be an open practice on Thursday night, October 7 from 7-9:30 p.m. for $20 per per.3son. The Grand National Championship is an accumulation of points over three nights utilizing the same point system as the National Weekly and Touring Series. At the conclusion of the three nights, the top 24 in points will be rewarded with some $150,000 as the 2010 National Champion will take home $30,000! “Rick Jones has stepped up to the plate in his first year as owner of Roaring Knob to begin creating a new signature fall event for our area,” stated Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. “The addition of the FASTRAK Grand Nationals has really added to the already stellar schedule of events for the weekend. Mercer is centrally located in the Northeast Region allowing easy access especially for the northern most part of the Region, while Roaring Knob is a perfect fit for the southwestern Pennsylvania and West Virginia racers.” In order to qualify for the Grand Nationals, a driver must be a member of FASTRAK (Weekly and/or Touring), and have competed in a minimum of 12 FASTRAK-sanctioned events. Each event in the Northeast will be 30 laps in distance paying $1,500 to-win, $200 to-start. If the huge Grand National point fund is not enough incentive for drivers to travel to Night 3 at Wythe, Virginia, a $1,200 to-win Bonus Main is sure to help solidify their decision! Any driver not finishing in the top 24 positions of the FINAL Grand National Points will be eligible to compete in this bonus feature event! Note: drivers must compete in all three nights of the Grand Nationals to compete in this event. The National Weekly Series Championship pays down 50 positions with $10,000 to the winner. Max Blair was the 2008 champion and is currently leading over Mike Pegher, Jr. with only one weekend of competition left. Blair also leads the $5,000 to-win Northeast Touring Series Championship over Pegher with two events remaining. Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex is located near Markleysburg, Pa. just off of scenic Route 40 on Fearer Road (look for the new red road sign) seven miles east of Nemacolin Woodlands on the right, one mile west of Yough Lake on the left. FASTRAK LATE MODEL “WHEELMAN” BONUS EVENT CHALLENGE SERIES ANNOUNCED FOR NE/MOV TOURING SERIES EVENTS; NEW FORMAT FOR LAPPED CARS ANNOUNCED By Mike Leone Pulaski, PA…FASTRAK Northeast is pleased to announce a new and exciting concept beginning this Friday night and at all participating speedways that host Northeast and Mid-Ohio Valley Late Model Touring Series events in the future called “The Wheelman” Challenge Series. At each Northeast and Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series event at participating tracks where 30 or more cars are present, a Bonus Event will be run following the night’s A main feature for all non-qualifying cars. This 8-10 lap race will pay a purse offering the winner an amount slightly less than feature starting money and an amount to-start slightly more than tow money. As an added incentive, separate points will be kept in this “Wheelman” Challenge Series utilizing the normal point structure and a season-ending cash and contingency point fund will be offered. “Founder Stan Lester started the Bonus Mains at many of his National Events,” explained Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “We felt with the continued growth of the Northeast Touring Series this will help out those drivers that fail to qualify for the feature and allow them to go home with more than tow money. This concept should hopefully give racers additional incentive to continue to support these events. Each year since the Northeast Touring Series debuted in 2007, car counts have increased and it’s important for the tracks to be able to maintain strong car counts in order to host these events in the future.” In the future, the goal is to have a separate “The Wheelman” Challenge Series for both the Mid-Ohio Valley and Northeast, but at the present the program will combine the two regions’ events. Also, effective immediately all lapped cars will go to the tail in all FASTRAK Northeast and Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series heats, B mains, and features; however, modeled off NASCAR’s “Lucky Dog,” the highest running lapped car on the speedway after each caution will receive a lap back in all FASTRAK Touring Series event nationwide. “We have had to make a change on our lapped car rule,” stated Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. “Even though we have run 40 other Touring races without lapped cars causing an issue, in two of the last three events lapped cars have caused undesirable consequences after both races went nearly green-to-checkered. The Lucky Dog rule will also give these racers additional incentive and at the same time keep the entire country the same on this procedure. ” Both “The Wheelman” and the lapped car rule change will begin this Friday night at the Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series event at West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, WV. Friday night will not only be the $1,200 to-win May 16 make-up feature, but also a new $1,200 to-win program. On Saturday, the National $10,000 to-win event will also award Touring points to both the Northeast and Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series. FASTRAK unveils TWO ‘Rookie of the Year’ Programs for 2010 FASTRAK reinstates Alan Dellinger, Bob Williams and Cresap Automotive Carnesville GA (Mar-26) FASTRAK Racing Series car owner Bob Williams, driver Alan Dellinger and Engine Builder Dean Yatchyshyn of Cresap Automotive have been reinstated in the FASTRAK Racing Series. All three parties were disqualified resulting from a technical inspection after an event during the 2009 season. In question were heads found at the time to be incorrect. The heads were sent to GM immediately thereafter for inspection. GM stated at that time that the heads were not correct. Diligent in claiming there had been no alterations made to the heads, Williams and Yatchyshyn requested the heads be sent back to GM for a more thorough and detailed technical analysis. During the initial inspection GM deemed the heads were the same serial number as the current generation 604 heads however that particular head “was never installed on a factory ‘circle track” crate engine”. On that basis, the call made by FASTRAK NE Regional Tech Director Brad Hibbard was in fact the correct call at that time. However during the subsequent detailed technical inspection GM determined there was no ‘intent to cheat’, that it was simply a matter of the heads in question being of an older design. Hence all parties have been reinstated. “I’m glad to see this resolved” said FASTRAK Founder Stan Lester. “I truly appreciate all of the parties involved continuing to pursue this. One thing FASTRAK can’t do is know who is and who isn’t trying to cheat. All we can do is check the parts in front of us at the time. Everyone involved in this instance proved by their continued efforts there were no alterations made to the heads. This should be a lesson to all authorized engine rebuilders across the country as to how vital it is to purchase cataloged parts directly from GM. Williams went on to add “We’re glad that due to everyone’s ‘don’t give up approach’ we’re finally able to bring this matter to a close and can now forge ahead. The FASTRAK Racing Series has grown into what it is today by staying true to its founding concepts of maintaining a level playing field environment for all competitors. This matter echoes that. We are appreciative of the fact that both the FASTRAK Racing Series and GM pursued this so diligently. It was just as important to them as it was to us “to get it right”. SOUTH ARCADE IS NEWEST SPEEDWAY TO JOIN FASTRAK; FRIDAY NIGHT WEEKLY LATE MODELS AS PART OF NORTHEAST By Mike Leone March 21, 2010 (Pulaski, PA)…The FASTRAK Racing Series is pleased to welcome on its newest weekly-sanctioned speedway in 2010 as South Arcade Speedway will run the Late Model division for the upcoming season. The Delevan, New York facility will continue to be the Empire State’s only FASTRAK weekly-sanctioned track. “We’re thrilled to have South Arcade join FASTRAK,” expressed FASTRAK Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “Arcade will make a great partner for McKean County Raceway and give racers in northwest Pennsylvania and western New York the opportunity to gain valuable FASTRAK points without having to travel great distances. From the sounds of it, there are a lot of new drivers making the move to FASTRAK in this area. We’re hoping it also opens up the possibility for a couple other venues to become FASTRAK-sanctioned in the future.” Mike Lauterborn, who recently spent his time as the promoter at New York’s Genesee Speedway and doubles as a Sprint Car driver, purchased South Arcade Speedway this winter. Lauterborn hopes to add stability to the speedway that has had an uncertain future with various promoters and name changes over recent years. Lauterborn has secured Jerges Auto Parts as a divisional sponsor to make the FASTRAK sanction possible at his facility. Jerges is owned by Bob and Annette Kish. Bob has been a loyal supporter of FASTRAK since it’s inception in the Northeast in 2007 campaigning his #5. Jerges is a buyer of scrap metal is located at 7708 County Road 26 in Belfast, NY. BECKLEY SIGNS ON FOR TWO FASTRAK MID-OHIO VALLEY TOURING SERIES EVENTS JUNE 4 & JULY 23; FIRST EVER TWIN 25S ON JUNE 4 FOR $1,200 TO-WIN EACH! By Mike Leone Beckley’s two M.O.V. Touring Series events will take place on Friday, June 4 and Friday, July 23. The interesting twist on the June 4 event is that for the first time ever under FASTRAK Northeast, a twin feature format be contested with both events paying $1,200 to-win! Both 25-lap features will also pay full points allowing drivers two opportunities to gain valuable M.O.V. Touring and National Weekly Series points. “First and foremost we’re thrilled to have Beckley part of FASTRAK,” explained FASTRAK Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “Not only will Beckley’s racers now have an opportunity to compete for the National Weekly Series Championship and Grand Nationals, but will now be under the same rules package and in line with the rest of FASTRAK in the country, which fits in perfectly with the new Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series. It’s been great working with promoter Jim Williams to coordinate and expand FASTRAK in this new area.” “It’s good to see this new Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series starting to come together,” described FASTRAK Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. “There are a lot of tracks in the Mid-Ohio area and with FASTRAK growing like it has over the past two seasons, we felt now was the time to add this additional Touring Series under the Northeast banner. Beckley’s M.O.V. events will give a lot of racers the opportunity to race at the southern West Virginia track for the first time. It’s great that Jim Williams has stepped up to offer not only two events, but a first ever twin feature format! That’s going to prove very interesting and may even draw a few cars from the Northeast and the South.” Beckley Motorsports Park is located just minutes off of

The Imperial, Pa. speedway made the decision today that their strong Crate Late Model division will become FASTRAK-sanctioned for the very first time! Pittsburgh becomes the 17th confirmed FASTRAK-sanctioned speedway in the Northeast for 2010. They join Hesston, Sharon, New Egypt, Brewerton, Fulton, West Virginia Motor, and Beckley Speedways as new FASTRAK-sanctioned speedways for the upcoming season. Two other Northeast speedways are still in negotiations to become weekly-sanctioned. “The addition of Pittsburgh is a huge asset for FASTRAK in the Northeast,” explained fourth year co-director Vicki Emig. “Pittsburgh was the pioneer in the region for Crate Late Model racing building up a strong, cost-effective division, and I’ve always respected what Miley Motor Sports have accomplished. Pittsburgh is another top notch facility that we’re thrilled to align ourselves with.”
Pittsburgh’s Crate Late Model division averaged 21 cars in 2009. Those racers will now be eligible to take part in the National Weekly Series Championship and the season ending Grand Nationals by simply becoming a FASTRAK member. With Pittsburgh’s cars now utilizing FASTRAK rules, these racers will also have an opportunity to compete in Northeast Touring Series races without any changes to their cars. It will also give Pittsburgh a boost allowing for other FASTRAK racers to compete in their weekly program. “We are extremely excited to be part of the FASTRAK team in 2010,” stated Pittsburgh co-owner Matt Miley. “Miley Motorsports has supported more cost effective engine packages for many years with the introduction of the economy motor followed by the GM 602 Crate Motor for the Crate Late Model Division. We often have felt like we were on an island trying to get more cost effective engine packages to be accepted. It feels great to step off the island and join the world of FASTRAK Late Model Racing. The timing seems right to give the race teams at PPMS an opportunity to show their stuff in the FASTRAK deal!” FASTRAK Northeast and Speedway officials are working to secure a Northeast Touring Series date that is conducive to both parties. Already 20 events plus Night 1 of the Grand Nationals make up the 2010 Northeast Touring Series slate with events ranging from $1,200 to $6,000 to-win.
In 2009, Pittsburgh hosted their first ever FASTRAK Late Model race as part of the Northeast Touring Series. Despite an 80% chance of rain and drizzle falling throughout the night, a strong field of 29 cars still turned out with Max Blair outdueled Mike Pegher, Jr. and David Scott to win one of the season’s most exciting events. “The year 2010 will be my 41st year in racing,” continued Miley. “The opportunities for regional teams to run special events in just about every division of racing and the cooperation between speedways are unprecedented. I watched a few racing tapes recently, from what I often perceive as the good ole days for a little reality check – the racing today is better than it’s ever been! The FASTRAK rules package should provide exiting three-wide racing at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile! Miley Motor Sports is proud to be a part of it. Invite your family, friends, and neighbors out to your local speedway to enjoy some of the greatest short track racing in the country! Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway is a ½-mile oval located minutes from Noblestown Exit off Routes 22 and 30 at 170 Kelso Rd, Imperial, PA. Thus far a record 20 events make up the Touring Series slate, which will occur at 12 speedways throughout western and central Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, northern West Virginia, and western New York. Currently there are 12 $1,200 to-win shows, three $1,500 to-win mains, two $2,000 to-win events, and one $3,000, $5,000, and $6,000 to-win features. This is in addition to Night 1 of the Grand Nationals at Mercer Raceway Park on October 2. “We can’t express how excited we are about the upcoming season,” stated Emig. “The schedule has just come together wonderfully and we really have to thank the tracks and racers for believing in this concept. All of our weekly-sanctioned tracks have just been super to work and coordinating these dates so we can maximize car counts. The growth of this Series annually is just astounding. In 2007 we started with four weekly tracks and 12 Touring events. That number grew to five weekly tracks and 15 Touring events in 2008, and then last year to nine weekly tracks and 17 Touring shows. Now here we are at 16 weekly tracks and 20 Touring events and as we speak there is still more interest out there!” The FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series is coming off a record-breaking season where 15 of the 17 events were completed in 2009. A total of 138 cars competed in these events with an average car count of 32 per event. David Scott became the third Series champion joining Alan Dellinger and Max Blair. The 2010 champion will again receive a minimum of $5,000. In 2007, an approximate $10,000 point fund was paid. That number rose 50% in 2008 to an approximate $15,000 point fund. This past season, the amount grew to $17,200 in cash with near $19,000 including contingencies. In 2009, the top 12 racers received cash with contingencies going to 13-15. If the support is there, the points paying positions could grow to 15 in 2010. Due to a scheduling conflict in the summer, the season will open up with back-to-back appearances at Tyler County Speedway on Saturday, April 17 and May 1 for $1,500 to-win each. The first will be part of the track’s topless event. The first of two straight events in the Buckeye State begins at Raceway 7 on Friday, May 21 then the following weekend, Sharon Speedway will host their first of three events on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend on May 29. Last year’s race was a stellar one with Mike Pegher, Jr. capturing the win over a 37-car field. The first of two National FASTRAK events for the Northeast Region will take place on Saturday, June 19, as longtime FASTRAK supporter, McKean County Raceway, will hold their largest event ever for the division with $5,000 up for grabs. The following day, the cars and stars of FASTRAK will head south to Clearfield County for the first time ever at “The Big Track”- Central PA Speedway on June 20. The event will be an interesting one on neutral ground and should draw a strong field of cars, as no other FASTRAK event will be held this night. New track owner Rick Jones will bring in the FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series to Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex on Saturday, June 26 for the first of two events. Last year’s first ever Touring Series event at Roaring Knob was won by Bobby Powell as 17 invaders made the trek down to take on Roaring Knob’s regulars at the scenic facility. For the second straight year, FASTRAK played to a huge packed grandstands at Expo Speedway at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds. Past winners include Powell and Blair. This year’s event is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, June 30. The richest event in the history of FASTRAK Northeast will come to Mercer Raceway Park on Saturday, July 3 for the “Summer Nationals”. This National FASTRAK event will pay a cool $6,000 to the winner and will also be the richest Late Model event in the history of Mercer! Mercer hosted a $5,000 National FASTRAK event back on July 4, 2007, which was won by Dick Barton. The 2010 season will be the 40th anniversary since the Late Models first appeared at Mercer in 1970. Tri-City Speedway will mark the halfway point of the season with race #10 of 20 when they host a Touring Series at their Venango County oval for their first of two appearances on Sunday, July 18. Ohio’s Raceway 7 and Sharon Speedway again host back-to-back events with Raceway 7’s on Friday, July 23 and less than a week later back to Sharon for a special midweek show on July 28. Sharon’s second event will be a Late Model fan’s dream as FASTRAK joins with the World of Outlaws. Everyone heads east for a two-day weekend at Dog Hollow and Hesston Speedways on Friday and Saturday, August 6-7. Friday’s show at Dog Hollow always brings out a large field of cars with the Northeast Touring Series regulars joining the track’s strong weekly field. The next day will mark the furthest east a Northeast Touring Series event has ever been held as new promoter Dusty Hertzler welcomes the Touring Series. Two weeks later another first will take place as the FASTRAK Late Models head to Modified country at Woodhull Raceway in Woodhull, New York on Saturday, August 21 for $1,500 to-win. This event should draw an interesting mix of cars, as neither Mercer, McKean, Hesston nor Fulton Speedways will have FASTRAK as part of their schedule this night. It’ll also give the central New York FASTRAK racers possibly their first chance to take part in a Touring Series event. A busy Labor Day Weekend will find the Touring Series competing at Tyler County Speedway on Friday, September 3 for $3,000 to-win as part of their Black Diamond Weekend then two days later at Tri-City Speedway as part of their annual Oil Region Labor Day Classic Weekend. Last year’s Tri-City event drew an all-time Northeast record 43 cars and was won by Jim Frank for the first time! Sharon Speedway and McKean County Raceway will host their final appearances by the FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series on consecutive weekends Saturday, September 18 and Friday, September 24 respectively. A new season ending event will take place at Roaring Knob as part of the track’s “Spectacular Fall Fest on October 8-9. The two-day event will feature heat races on Friday night followed by the $2,000 Northeast Touring Championship on Saturday. An open practice is scheduled for Thursday night. In the previous three seasons, a total of 34 Northeast Touring Series events have been contested. Blair is the all-time winner with five victories followed by Powell, Barton, and John Lacki with four wins. Scott’s three checkered flags in 2009 moved him into fifth place in a tie with Pegher. Dellinger is the only other driver to score multiple wins at two. Todd Andrews, Kyle Drum, Frank Guidace, Butch Lambert, Carl McKinney, Chris Meadows, Dennis Lunger, Jr., Jim Frank, and Tom Snyder, Jr. all have single victories. Membership to join the Touring Series is again $100 for the season. Though membership is not required, it does make one eligible for the point fund. Each event has a $50-$150 entry fee depending on the payoff. The FASTRAK Northeast Region boasts 16 confirmed weekly-sanctioned tracks for 2010 with Beckley Motorsports Park, Brewerton Speedway, Elkins Speedway, Dog Hollow Speedway, Fulton Speedway, Hesston Speedway, Mercer Raceway Park, McKean County Raceway, New Egypt Speedway, Princeton Speedway, Raceway 7, Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex, Sharon Speedway, Tri-City Speedway, Tyler County Speedway, & West Virginia Motor Speedway. There are three other speedways in neogotiations to become weekly-sanctioned. ROARING KNOB TO CONTINUE WITH FASTRAK LATE MODELS IN 2010 UNDER NEW OWNER; 2 TOURING SERIES EVENTS SLATED INCLUDING SEASON FINALEBy Mike Leone February 2, 2010Pulaski, PA…Less than one month ago, the prospects of racing taking at place at the Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex looked bleak. A press release went out on January 5 informing the public that the scenic facility would be shuttered if a new owner wasn’t found. Enter Rick Jones of Oval Track Promotions, Inc. Jones has picked up the ball and will continue with Saturday night racing at Roaring Knob in 2010. The announcement was made today that the crate Late Models will again be under the FASTRAK banner and that two Northeast Touring Series events have been scheduled. The confirmation of Roaring Knob brings the confirmed number of weekly FASTRAK-sanctioned tracks in the Northeast for 2010 up to 15 with four other speedways still in negotiations. In 2009, Roaring Knob joined FASTRAK as a weekly-sanctioned speedway. After a season-low seven cars on opening night, Roaring Knob averaged nearly 19 cars per night the rest of the season. There were an amazing 11 different winners in 13 races. Troy Shields will go down as the inaugural track champion and Bobby Powell made history becoming the first Northeast Touring Series winner on June 27. “First off we have to thank former track owner Ron Brutt for bringing FASTRAK to Roaring Knob,” explained Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “He took a chance on the division last year and was very thrilled with the results. For a first year track to average nearly 19 cars and have 11 different winners in 13 races is a testament to the growth and competitiveness of this division. It’s great that Rick Jones has given FASTRAK a second year at his new venture, which should only continue the growth of the division.” Not only will Roaring Knob once again host their June Northeast Touring Series event on the 26th paying $1,200 to-win, but has added a second event for his “Roaring Knob Spectacular Fall Fest” on October 9 and 10. Heat races will be contested on Friday with the Northeast Touring Series Championship on Saturday paying $2,000 to-win. There will also be an open practice session on Thursday night. “A few weeks ago it didn’t even look like racing would take place at Roaring Knob, now FASTRAK is back weekly and Rick Jones has given us two Northeast Touring Series events,” stated Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. “We had 17 teams make the trip down to Roaring Knob to mix in with the track’s regulars for last year’s Touring Series race, and I know the guys and our staff really enjoyed the facility and the hospitality they provided. It’s great to be able to have two events and end our season with a new high-paying event!” “I’m excited to begin my new tenure at Roaring Knob,” expressed Jones. “I’ve heard a lot about FASTRAK the past few seasons and with the success they had at Roaring Knob in their inaugural season, it was a no-brainer for me to bring them back. The growth of FASTRAK is amazing and I look forward to bigger and better things in 2010.” Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex is a 3/8-mile dirt oval located at 380 Fearer Road, which is directly off of scenic Route 40 near Markleysburg, Pa. The track is situated seven miles east of the Nemacolin Woodlands on the right side of Route 40 or one mile west of Yough Lake on the left side of Route 40. FASTRAK NORTHEAST ANNOUNCES NEW SEPARATE “MID-OHIO VALLEY TOURING SERIES” BASED IN WEST VIRGINIABy Mike Leone Pulaski, PA...FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series Directors Vicki Emig and Mike Leone have announced a new FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series. The Touring Series will be based in the heart of West Virginia with the goal of expanding into southeastern Ohio. The Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series will be modeled after the success of the Northeast. Events will pay $1,200, $1,500, $2,000, and $3,000 to-win with the possibility of higher paying events in the future. A year end point fund will be established paying the top 10 FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series members. “The continued growth of FASTRAK is just incredible,” stated Emig. “It’s exploded here in the Northeast with potentially more to come and West Virginia is now taking off. Last year we were able to add Tyler County and Elkins Speedways and with the announcement of Beckley and West Virginia Motor Speedways going FASTRAK weekly-sanctioned along with the already established Princeton Raceway, it just made sense that now was the time.” Leone and Emig will work closely with former Tyler County and current West Virginia promoter Dan Patterson and tire supplier Doug Doak. Doak will serve as the Mid-Ohio Valley liaison with the racers and Northeast Office. “Our Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York racers can only travel to West Virginia so many times,” explained Leone. “Last year we only had two West Virginia drivers frequent most of our Northeast Touring Series events. For 2010, we have three Northeast Touring events slated for Tyler County, which is the closest of the West Virginia tracks to the Northeast. These events will become co-sanctioned clash events with the Mid-Ohio Valley Series, which will only benefit everyone. It’ll allow the West Virginia racers the opportunity to compete in higher paying events and a season ending point fund without traveling large distances.” The goal is to secure 10-12 Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series events. Thus far tentative dates include April 17 Tyler County Speedway, May 1 Tyler County Speedway, May 16 West Virginia Motor Speedway, August 1 West Virginia Motor Speedway, and September 3 Tyler County Speedway. An additional West Virginia Motor Speedway date may be secured as well as the national FASTRAK event on July 9-10. Additional target tracks where events will try to be secured will be Beckley Motorsports Park, Elkins Speedway, I-77 Speedway, Midway Speedway, Princeton Speedway, Ohio Valley Speedway, and Skyline Speedway. Any tracks interested in hosting a Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series event should contact the Northeast Office at 724-964-9300. FASTRAK Northeast Tech Inspector Brad Hibbard will be traveling to the majority of these events to insure the FASTRAK rules are enforced as has been the case the past three seasons in the Northeast. An informational meeting will be scheduled in the near future. A separate page for the Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series will be created off of the FASTRAK Northeast website at www.fastraknortheast.com in the near future.

Beginning in mid-February, Hoosier will release the first production run of new FASTRAK-plated tires. “I know this announcement is coming later than both Hoosier or FASTRAK would have liked,” stated Hoosier Product Manager Shanon Rush. “But you only get one chance to start off a new relationship. Stan and I agonized over the details many times to try and satisfy all of the FASTRAK regions and drivers. Although it took two separate tests and many phone calls, I think we have finally found the tires we were looking for.” Hoosier will produce two sizes for the FASTRAK Racing Series, the 88.0/11.0-15 and the 92.0/11.0-15. Normally utilized as a left rear tire, the target rollout for the 88 inch tire will be roughly 87 to 88 inches. The catalog number will be 36608 with a size description of 88.0/11.0-15 LSB. The three FASTRAK compounds, FT200, FT400 and FT600, were chosen with durability and versatility in mind. The FT200 should durometer in the 45 range while the FT400 fills the 55 durometer range needs. Finally, the FT600 will be the fail-safe, right rear only compound with a 65 durometer range. “I can’t express how much FASTRAK as a company and I personally appreciate the tireless efforts everyone at Hoosier has put into this process.” stated FASTRAK CEO/Founder Stan Lester. “Our originally planned day two of tire testing was ‘snowed out’, and with the Christmas holiday the following week, the decision making process was delayed. In the end, we have come up with an incredible product that is durable, fast, and easy to drive. Tracks and teams are calling wanting to know when tires will be ready. 2010 is developing into what I think will be the most exciting year FASTRAK has seen to date”. Michael Hurley SHARON SPEEDWAY ADDS TO RAPID FASTRAK GROWTH AS ALL RACES TO BE SANCTIONED; 3 NORTHEAST TOURING EVENTS PART OF SPECIAL SLATEBy Mike Leone Pulaski, PA...The FASTRAK Late Model Racing Series continues to add speedways at a record pace as Sharon Speedway is the latest to join the Northeast fold. The Hartford, Ohio speedway has announced that all of their 2010 crate Late Model events will be sanctioned by FASTRAK, which means they will be part of the National Weekly Series Championship. While Sharon will not run the class on a weekly basis, they have scheduled three Northeast Touring Series events on May 29, July 28, and September 18. They will also run the FASTRAK Late Models on at least two other Saturdays that the division will not run at nearby Mercer Raceway Park. The potential also exists for additional shows on their new bi-weekly Friday night line-up. "We're thrilled to add Sharon Speedway to FASTRAK and allow their races to count for the National Weekly Series Championship," explained Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. "We have a similar situation at McKean County Raceway and West Virginia Motor Speedway. This is something that will be a great benefit for the racers as we know how tight the National Weekly Championship is annually and any additional races can make a difference. It's been great working with Sharon's new GM/Promoter Dave Willoughby with both FASTRAK and Mercer Raceway Park." In 2009, Sharon hosted their first ever FASTRAK Late Model races both as Northeast Touring Series events. The first show on May 23 drew 37 cars, which at the time was an all-time Northeast record, and was won by Mike Pegher, Jr., and second show on September 19 drew 33 cars and was won by champion David Scott. "We were very pleased with our 2009 shows at Sharon," stated Willoughby. "We had an excellent turnout of cars and the fans really seemed to enjoy the races. We're looking forward to the three Touring Series events and have gone ahead and scheduled some additional shows that I know the racers will be excited about." Sharon joins Hesston, New Egypt, Brewerton, Fulton, West Virginia, and Beckley Speedways as new FASTRAK-sanctioned speedways for the upcoming 2010 season in the Northeast. Sharon Speedway is a 3/8-mile dirt oval located just one miles east of the Routes 7 and 305 intersection on Custer-Orangeville Road in Hartford, Ohio. The Normandy Banquet Center played host to the third annual event, which was held in conjunction with the Mercer Raceway Park Awards Banquet & Dinner. Scott and the Powells each received championship jackets along with the $5,000 title. Scott became the third different champion in as many seasons joining 2007 champion Alan Dellinger and 2008 champion Max Blair. Scott recorded three wins along the way, but his first didn't come until the August 8 event at Elkins Speedway in West Virginia. He later added wins at Mercer Raceway Park on September 12 and a week later at Sharon Speedway on September 19. Scott finished with 11 top 5s and 13 top 10s in 15 events. Defending 2008 Northeast Touring and National Weekly Series Champion, Max Blair, had another stellar season. The 19-year-old Centerville, Pa. driver won events at Mercer, Expo, and Dog Hollow on his way to a runner-up finish. Blair had nine top three finishes and challenges Scott down to the wire in his Eagle Hoist & Winch/Specialty Products/Loney Timber/Moody Welding-sponsored #111. 2008 Mercer Raceway Park Mod Lite Champion made the jump up to the FASTRAK Late Models in 2009 and had an excellent debut competing in all 15 Northeast Touring Series events and coming up third in the final standings. The 16-year-old Conneaut, Ohio racer drove the Main Avenue Insurance/Chardies Auto Parts/Bushnell Store-sponsored #2 to 7 top 8s including a career best second at McKean County Raceway in the season finale. Despite finishing second in National Weekly Series Championship after losing the tiebreaker, Mike Pegher, Jr. didn't have the success he had hoped for on the Northeast Touring Series slate finishing fourth. The Wexford, Pa. driver of the Lynn Geisler-owned #1 Cochran/Pegher Custom Home Painting/Triple-S Auto-sponsored #1c started the year off on fire winning the opening two events at Tyler County and Sharon, but could only muster 4 top 5 finishes in the final 13 events. Completing the top 5 was Bobby Powell. The Waterford, Pa. driver completed his second full year behind the wheel of the Scott Bidwell-owned, Fame RV Center/Maloney Tool/Houck Carbide/Jay's Auto Wrecking/Rich Johnson Electric-sponsored #B1D with two wins at Roaring Knob and Tri-City. Carl McKinney competed full-time on the Northeast Touring Series slate for the first time and turned in a respectable sixth place effort despite missing the rescheduled Expo event due to leading the E-Mod points at Tri-City. The Cranberry Township, Pa. driver started the year off with four straight top 10s and ended the year with 10 including a season best third at Tri-City on September 6 in his Mikan Motors/Hufnagel Motors Trailer Sales/Results Chiropractic/Strutz Fabricators/Randy's Window Clean-sponsored #6M. Dan Angelicchio started the year off as the early Northeast Touring Series point leader thanks to four straight top 7 finishes, but struggled from July on with only two top 10s in the final 11 shows. The New Stanton, Pa. driver ended up seventh in the Denny Angelicchio-owned, Brooks Auto-sponsored #14. After digging himself a big hole missing two of the first four shows and finishes of 20th and 22nd in the other two, Butch Lambert charged back with 8 top 8 finishes in the final 11 shows to finish eighth in points. The Mars, Pa. driver had a pair of thirds at Elkins and Mercer for his season best efforts in his Bagel Bites/Fannie's Friends Pet Cremation/Austin's A1 Bleach/RAM Transit-sponsored #27. Despite missing the Elkins event due to his active service requirement, the Rome, Ohio racer competed in the remainder 14 events to finish ninth in the final ranking. Watson turned in a pair of season best fifth place finishes at Sharon and Raceway 7 in the Mike Horton-owned, Chief's Garage & Service/Custom Quality & Collision/BK Trucking/Hide-a-way Campgrounds-sponsored #48. Joining the FASTRAK ranks in 2009 and finishing 10th was West Virginia racer Gary Knollinger. Driving the Gumby's/HP Excavating/Earth & Sun-sponsored #38K, Knollinger started off the year in contention for the title with a third at his home track Tyler County, added a runner-up at Mercer on Memorial Day, and turned in a fifth at Raceway 7 on July 3. He continued his strong efforts in West Virginia with a fourth and a second in August at Elkins and Tyler County, but failing to qualify for two features and missing two others late in the year ended his chance at a top five placing. Another driver to join the FASTRAK Series in 2009 was Garrett Mott, who would finish 11th inthe final standings. Not only was he a rookie to FASTRAK, but a raw rookie never racing another division. The young Smethport, Pa. driver missed only the season opening Tyler County event and followed the Touring Series the rest of the way recording a career best third on July 3 at Raceway 7 in his #43x. Tommy Schirnhofer, Jr. was 12th in his first full season in the Northeast Touring Series to earn the final points paying position. The Pittsburgh, Pa. driver had 5 top 10s in the 11 shows he competed in the Tom Schirnhofer, Sr.-owned, Bucky Gebert Motorsports/Woody's Towing/Tomei's Towing/Schirnhofer Welding/R. Torrence, Jr. Trucking-sponsored #8s. Mike Blose, Joe Martin, and Tom Copeland finished 13th through 15th in points respectively and received a pair of Hoosier FASTRAK tires for the 2010 season. Blose moved into FASTRAK in July and had a season best second in his first ever Touring Series event at Dog Hollow on July 24. Martin, who formerly turned the wrenches for Blose, was another raw rookie and ended the season with a career best Touring Series effort in fifth at Sharon. Copeland missed only the rescheduled Dog Hollow event due to work obligations and had a season best 18th at Mercer on September 19. Following the top 15 presentation, FASTRAK Northeast Co-Directors Vicki Emig and Mike Leone presented Brad Hibbard with an appreciate award for his efforts over the past three seasons. The Boardman, Ohio residents has served as the Northeast Tech Inspector and has held that position at the Grand Nationals, as well as National events at tracks like Eldora Speedway in Ohio and Wythe Raceway in Virginia. He's also conducted numerous seminars and has been instrumental in the rapid growth and integrity of the Series. NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY JOINS FASTRAK FOR 2010 AS GROWTH IN NORTHEAST CONTINUESSEMINAR SCHEDULED FOR JANUARY 22 AS PART OF MOTORSPORTS 2010 SHOW NEAR PHILADELPHIABy Mike Leone Pulaski, PA...The FASTRAK Racing Series is pleased to welcome New Egypt Speedway on board as a 2010 weekly-sanctioned Late Model speedway. The upcoming season will mark the first ever for FASTRAK in the state of New Jersey. FASTRAK Northeast will also conduct a seminar for all interested parties on Friday night, January 22 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa. as part of Motorsports 2010. "This is a major milestone for FASTRAK to be part of New Egypt's program," stated Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. "New Egypt is without a doubt one of the top facilities in the Northeast and is certainly known far and wide for their Modified program. It's quite an honor for FASTRAK to make inroads not only in Modified country, but this far east. The announcement has already piqued a lot of interest and will allow FASTRAK an opportunity to grow on the Atlantic Coast." New Egypt Speedway is located between Philadelphia and New York City in New Egypt, New Jersey. The 3/8-mile D-shaped clay oval features headlines Big-Block Modifieds and close to 130 race cars on Saturday nights. The FASTRAK Late Models, like all other support divisions at New Egypt, will run every other week equating to approximately 15 shows. The entire facility features a daylight, quality lighting system and excellent sightlines from any seat in the house. The track is fully wheelchair-accessible and features heated restrooms and a monitored playground area. For more information on New Egypt, check out their website at www.newegyptspeedway.net. "Over the past few years we have been seeing, reading, and hearing about FASTRAK more and more," said New Egypt General Manager Danny Serrano. "They seem to be growing by the day. Late Models are the most popular form of short track racing in America, however for some reason they haven't spread into the extreme Northeast just yet. We see that changing very soon." "Super Late Models might take a while because of the popularity with the Modifieds here, continued Serrano, but we certainly feel there is a place for crate late models; and if you're going to go that route it only makes sense to go FASTRAK. We fully understand that this is a building process so we are indeed realistic, but at the same time extremely optimistic about the future of this division. In just a couple of short conversations with Vicki Emig, I can tell that she's excited that New Egypt has joined the FASTRAK fold and I couldn't be more happier to be working with her and the FASTRAK organization." "We would be remised if we didn't mention and credit to Michael Sweet," explained Leone. "Sweet did a lot of the legwork last year and over the early fall in parts of New York and New Jersey to establish the North Atlantic Region; however, due to other commitments Sweet is unable to direct the region to the best of his abilities and tracks such as New Egypt, Brewerton, and Fulton that will debut the division in 2010 will now fall under the Northeast banner. We will continue to lean on Sweet and his knowledge of this area in hopes to continue to build FASTRAK throughout the Northeast." "The continued success of the FASTRAK Racing Series has led to many firsts from the addition of new regions and speedways, more competitors, and a growing fan base to new geographic areas of the country," expressed Sweet, the former Regional Director and new West Coast liaison for the FASTRAK Racing Series. "When FASTRAK introduced its brand of racing to the New England area and New York and New Jersey most racers said, yes, we want to be involved with the series; however, at the time there were no tracks running these cars. Well, with the commitment and signing of New Egypt along with Brewerton and Fulton Speedways in New York, this has all changed." "The only thing left to do was to make the Northeast region geographically correct," continued Sweet. "We've now fused things together making the Northeast a substantial area that includes Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, New York and New Jersey. No other sanctioning body is increasing in size faster than FASTRAK, and the growth and influence the Northeast will have is dramtic." FASTRAK Northeast will join with New Egypt and present a "Q & A" seminar session on Friday, January 22 at Motorsports 2010 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa. The seminar will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be free of charge to show attendees on day one of the three-day event. "We are extremely excited to be coming to the Motorsports show to explain to everyone what FASTRAK is all about," expressed Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. "We've heard nothing but positive things about New Egypt Speedway, and now with them in our region, it'll only make the Northeast that much stronger and give even more credibility to FASTRAK" "We understand that the fans, drivers, and promoters in many areas of the Northeast and East Coast aren't that familiar with the name FASTRAK, and that's why we holding this question and answer session," added Emig. "We want to educate everyone on how the various pieces of FASTRAK works from the points, memberships, teching and all the opportunities that come along with FASTRAK." "The management of New Egypt is looking forward to the presentation, and FASTRAK's involvement with their track, expressed Serrano. "Anyone that is interested in the FASTRAK Late Model Series needs to be at this meeting. We've had tons of calls inquiring about the Late Models, but some of the answers are best presented by Vicki and Mike. They are going to be at Motorsports and they have been extremely helpful in this building process." "I know other track promoters are interested in the series, but just aren't sure and have many questions themselves," continued Serrano. "The same can be said about drivers. We are also looking for authorized engine rebuilders. Those interested in becoming a part of FASTRAK should be at this meeting on that Friday (January 22) night." The 25th annual Motorsports show will be held at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks. Following the FASTRAK seminar, Sweet will conduct a motorsports marketing roundtable free of charge to interested parties.
