PITTSBURGH ADDED TO FASTRAK NORTHEAST LATE MODEL TOURING SERIES; 17-EVENT SLATE TO NOW INCLUDE $1,200 TO-WIN JULY 25By Mike LeoneMay 17, 2009 Pulaski, PA…The 2009 FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series has grown yet again as Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway has signed on for their inaugural event on Saturday, July 25. The $1,200 to-win show brings the 2009 Touring Series total to a record 17 events at 11 different speedways! “We have tried since the inception of FASTRAK Northeast in 2007 to book a Touring Series event at Pittsburgh,” explained FASTRAK Northeast co-director Mike Leone. “Pittsburgh just recently contacted us about the July 25 event date, which is perfect as three of our weekly-sanctioned Saturday tracks, Mercer, McKean, and Tyler County, are not running FASTRAK that night.” “You have to give the Miley Family and Pittsburgh credit for being the pioneers of crate racing in the region,” stated FASTRAK Northeast co-director Vicki Emig. “Their limited/spec Late Model division has really evolved into a strong field of crate Late Models. Their foresight really helped FASTRAK take off and many of their competitors over the past few seasons have competed with FASTRAK. It will be great to see FASTRAK get the opportunity to compete with many of these racers on their home turf.” “Miley Motor Sports has been an avid supporter of the crate engine program for several years. FASTRAK, and crate racing in general, has brought new life into Late Model Racing,” said Pittsburgh co-owner Matt Miley. “It’s a great group of drivers with a good mix of veterans and rising stars all competing with the most cost effective rules package in our sport. FASTRAK has done a great job enforcing their rules, which provides an equal playing field for all competitors. Combine that with the guardrail to guardrail, multi-groove racing surface being produced by the PPMS track crew at the Monster Half Mile and we are in for a real treat of three and four-wide racing. I know I can’t wait to see it!” The event will be run under 100% FASTRAK rules and Northeast Touring Series procedures. Mike Pegher, Jr. won the Touring Series opener at Tyler County on April 25 and is the current point leader. “When we started our scheduling we were shooting for 12 events and figuring a maximum of 15,” revealed Leone. “It’s hard to believe we’re at 17 now all paying between $1,200 and $2,000. This basically gives FASTRAK races a full season of Super Late Model purses! We’re hearing of a couple more former Super Late Model standouts that may be joining the FASTRAK ranks in the coming months.” The FASTRAK Late Model Touring Series is gearing up for a two-race weekend over Memorial Day Weekend with the inaugural event at Sharon Speedway (Hartford, OH) on Saturday, May 23 followed by the “Steel Valley Memorial Day Classic” at Mercer Raceway Park (Mercer, PA) on Monday, May 25.
